Remembering What’s Forgotten featured on BBC Radio: Interview with Omari Swanston – Jeffers

Listen to the interview with #RWF’s poet in residence on Bruddahood.

On Friday 14 March 2025, Omari Swanston – Jeffers was interviewed by Sile Sibanda on BBC Radio Sheffield about his Remembering What’s Forgotten poetry residency.
You can hear the full interview on Sile Sibanda’s show on BBC Sounds: (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0kqqwq2)
It starts at around 21 minutes and ends at 42.32 (including a musical interlude from Aswad).
During the interview Omari Swanston – Jeffers discusses code switching, Black and South Asian men’s mental health, holding space for community and the role of creative expression in healing, ending with a poetry performance. Presenter Sile Sibanda also played some of the audio from the digital exhibition.
It will only be on BBC Sounds until the 12th April 2025 so don’t miss it!
This is a timely reminder to delve into the digital exhibition and dedicate some time to exploring the Remembering What’s Forgotten online resource. There is such a richness of experience which is shared by the participants.
You are guaranteed to come away with a deeper understanding and reflections about inequality, equity of access. It forces us to examine how we interact and treat one another, and the societal norms and expectations we adhere to or are part of.
Remembering What’s Forgotten hopes to inspire further co-creation with marginalised and ‘othered’ communities. It is to be used as a tool of change for mental health equality and racial justice amid the gradual decolonisation of knowledge and heritage.
