Volition AGM – Strength through uncertain times

Volition held their 2024 AGM at St George’s Centre on Thursday 28 November.

This formality was a small but perfectly formed Annual General Meeting with members of our board of trustees and team present. It included the official signing off of Volition’s accounts for the last financial year, 2023/24, and reappointment of trustees to the Volition Board, as well as an overview of the Volition team’s activity.

The Chair Mark Law extended thanks to the team for the quality and quantity of their work, praising in particular the generous leadership and dedication of Volition Director, Pip Goff.

“What the team has achieved has been outstanding, and in a hugely uncertain context” Mark Law, Volition Chair.

The Finance and Governance Manager, Joanne Austin presented independently examined 2023/24 accounts and gave an update on Volition’s current financial position.

You can see key takeaways from the accounts in the Volition AGM Slide Presentation.

Volition is in a strong position despite a reduction in income from the previous year, 22/23. Steps have been taken to reduce our back office costs and reduce team capacity while retaining a high level of output and achievements with a more narrowed focus. Reserves are within an established upper and lower limit as set out in the Reserve Policy (p.12 of the Volition Trustees Report and Annual Accounts).

As always, it was a great opportunity to reflect on the progress made in 23/24 and review the team’s work against the Volition Mission and Strategic Goals.

The Team would like to say a huge thanks to all Volition Trustees, and especially Carol Hill who is stepping down after 9 years. “Carol’s dedication and input over the years, including being our treasurer, has been invaluable and she will be missed.”

The year ahead, for the sector as a whole, remains uncertain, but there is optimism that despite the challenges, Volition has a bright and impactful future. Here’s to another year delivering Forum Central in partnership with LOPF, and in collaboration with strategic partners and our members.
