Leeds Health Awareness: Cancer Training Toolkit Sessions

Leeds Health Awareness are running a series of sessions to gain feedback on the content, which will then go on to produce a Cancer Training toolkit for Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations.

The training is set at introductory level and is open to everyone with an interest in knowing more about Cancer. Some of the sessions focus on barriers experienced by people with additional needs such as serious mental illness, cultural or language. Lung Cancer Awareness – 28 August
11 am – 12 pm

This session explains the risk factors for lung cancer, signs and symptoms to look out for and where you can go for help and advice if you think you may have lung cancer.

Cervical Cancer Awareness – 17 September
1 pm – 2 pm

The session will give greater understanding of Cervical Cancer, risk factors & early signs & symptoms. Understand the importance of Cervical Screening: eligibility, what’s Involved and HPV and learn screening protection and prevention benefits

Prostate Cancer Awareness – 14 October
11 am – 12 pm

This session aims to increase your knowledge and understanding of the importance of prostate cancer awareness, how to identify if you could be at risk and what do if you have concerns.  We also cover what a prostate is, what it does, and how to prepare for the PSA test.  We also talk about changes to the local prostate pathway and how testing is quicker and easier now.

How to have meaningful conversations about Cancer – 6 November
1 pm – 2 pm

This final session looks at ways you can have meaningful conversations about a difficult topic. We will look at different resources and support mechanisms that you can use with your workforce and family.
We will share tools and techniques to make it easier for you to set up your own events and we will share how you can access tools for yourself. Throughout the session you will be asked by the trainer for your thoughts and feedback so that materials and topics can be adjusted to best suit participants needs.
