The Armley Roadblock – Halfway there!
Roadblock’s new project to build an off-grid events machine with locals in Armley is now in its second phase
Read on to see what we achieved in our engagement and design periods!
In November we;
– Engaged over 600 people in New Wortley and Armley to make designs for the Armley Roadblock.
– We received around 80 different ideas, sketches and models for what would help local people to access their public spaces the most.
In December we;
– Approached over 1000 people to vote on which machine was best, not including our online form.
– Made 6 different iterative models designing and improving the function of the Machine which was chosen (latest model attached below).
In January we aim to;
– Build the bike alongside community engineers to a level where it can be cycled and produces power.
– To engage with Community groups and Schools to be involved with the build and the continued artistic development of the project.
There is a small community team gathering around the project who will become the core decision makers in time. We would welcome engagement from all parts of the community in guiding the project, anyone from your communities or organisations who would like to feed into this group (at any level) would be very welcome to join.
This project has been run by a team of 11 volunteers that have so far have put in over £30,000 worth of hours (calculated at volunteer pay).
This project is possible because of the generous support of individuals and peer organisations in the city, our crowdfunding is still live and if you are in a position to help us or would like to share our project please share the Crowdfunder below
