Addressing Damp, Mould and Condensation: Research Requests

The Healthy Housing Initiative at the University of Huddersfield is conducting vital research on how damp, mould, and condensation issues in housing are being addressed. The study examines interventions that have succeeded, those that have not, and the reasons why such challenges often persist.

This project is being carried out in collaboration with members of the West Yorkshire Housing Partnership (WYHP) and the housing and health workstreams of the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership.

As part of the research, the team is interviewing individuals who have experienced damp, mouldy, or cold housing conditions, as well as professionals involved in addressing or remediating these problems. The aim is to better understand the effectiveness of various interventions from the perspectives of those directly impacted and those working in the field.

The researchers are particularly keen to hear from:

  • Residents (private and social housing renters)
  • Housing officers
  • Home visitors
  • Built environment/maintenance professionals
  • Landlords

Interviews, conducted by University of Huddersfield researchers, typically last 45 minutes to 1 hour and are recorded with the interviewee’s consent. All participants’ identities are anonymised to ensure privacy.

If you or someone in your network would be interested in contributing to this important research, please contact Pratichi Chatterjee at p.chatterjee@hud.ac.uk, and cc Phil Brown at p.a.brown@hud.ac.uk.

The team is also happy to share research findings with those who are interested. Your input could play a key role in shaping effective solutions to housing-related health issues.
