This year’s report focuses on the impact of rising temperatures in Leeds due to global climate change.
The report highlights that most at-risk groups, such as older adults, people with long term health conditions, young children, and those living in deprived communities, are disproportionately at risk from the impacts of rising temperatures. People in low-income households often face additional challenges, such as an increased likelihood of having a long – term health condition and/or disability.
It combines survey responses from local people with latest data and a review of the available evidence around urban warming and rising temperatures, produced by:
- The United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
- The Department of Health.
- The Local Government Association.
- The World Health Organization.
- The Met Office.
The recommendations in this report require a holistic approach, integrating public health, housing, city development, and community engagement to address the health impact of rising temperatures.
This report and supporting film will be shared and discussed at the Health and Wellbeing Board and various other meetings over the upcoming months.
Feedback on the Director of Public Health Annual Report is always welcomed. If you have any comments, please email publichealth.enquiries@leeds.gov.uk.
