Age-friendly Communities: A handbook of principles to guide local policy and action

The Centre for Ageing Better has published a handbook aimed at people working in or with local authorities in the UK to help them identify ways to make local areas more age-friendly.

The handbook follows the World Health Organisation’s Eight Domains of Age-friendly Communities, part of a framework first published in 2007, which covers the key components of places that impact how well people age.

The handbook includes several examples from Leeds, which has made great strides in working towards being the best city to grow old in. Its Age Friendly Leeds Strategy and Plan is also adapted from the World Health Organisation’s Age Friendly domains.
